{"id":1252,"date":"2014-01-10T18:03:47","date_gmt":"2014-01-10T18:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/?p=1252"},"modified":"2019-05-01T15:24:44","modified_gmt":"2019-05-01T15:24:44","slug":"december-2013-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/december-2013-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"December 2013 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CBWS MEETING and TASTING THURSDAY 21st NOVEMBER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ca la Iaia was the venue for 73 members and guests for a tasting presented by Bodegas Vi\u00f1edos Valderiz from Ribera del Duero, located at an altitude of 825 metres. It is a familyconcern founded in 1980 and the family Esteban is one of the pioneers of organic farming in\u00a0the Ribera del Duero. Four wines were tasted, all organic and all 100% Tempranillo. The\u00a0tasting was presented by the managing director Juan Esteban.<\/p>\n<p>The first wine was Valdehermoso Joven, 2012. Cherry in colour with violet edges, it hasan aroma of red fruits, tasty in the mouth, the absence of sulphides making the taste quite\u00a0distinctive. The wine is 13.5% Alcohol by Volume (ABV) and costs 5.65 \u20ac. This wasfollowed by Valdehermoso Roble 2011 which had been aged in French oak for 10 months.\u00a0It was cherry in colour with violet edge, an aroma of ripe wild fruits, an ABV of 14.5% and \u00a0costs 7.6 \u20ac.<\/p>\n<p>The third wine Valdehermoso Crianza 2010 produced from vines 10 to 18 years old. Thewine was aged for 14 months in oak, 80% French and 20% American. Cherry in colour\u00a0with a garnet edge, it has a balanced aroma, very smooth, an ABV of 14.5%, awarded 90\u00a0points by the Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1\u00edn and very good value for money it costs 11.25 \u20ac<\/p>\n<p>Finally the wine considered the Hallmark of the winery, Valderiz 2009 produced from vines\u00a0older than 25 years. The wine has been aged in oak for 24 months, (80% French 20%American). Cherry in colour with a garnet edge, ripe fruit flavour, complex, tasty in the\u00a0mouth with an ABV of 14.5%, the 2012 Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1\u00edn awarded it 91 points. Traditionally gentlemen\u00a0wear black tie\/dinner jacket\/smoking or lounge suit. It is a sign of respect for our\u00a0ladies who always look so glamorous.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glass of Cava as welcome drink<\/p>\n<p><strong>MENU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aperitivo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Entradas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Green Tomato Cream with Trout Caviar, Rye Bread canap\u00e9 with Smoked Salmon,\u00a0Mini Cocas of X\u00e0bia, Homemade Croquettes with Boletus, Foie Bombom with Almonds,\u00a0Mozarella Pearl with Pesto<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plato Principal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gilthead with Dried Tomato and Boiled Potatoes<\/p>\n<p>Duck Leg Confit with Red Fruit Sauce,\u00a0or<\/p>\n<p>Carpaccio of Pineapple with Jamaica pepper and Coconut Ice Cream<\/p>\n<p><strong>Postre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Coffee or Tea<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Price &#8211; Members \u20ac30.00 Guests \u20ac35.00<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Along with the menu on the previous page we will be serving two of popular wines of the\u00a0year so far &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>White<\/strong> &#8211; Paco y Lola 2012, Alvarinho, from the DO, Rias Baixas. I served the 2011\u00a0production of this wine at the AGM tasting in February and this is one of the top\u00a0scoring whites of the year to date. The 2012 wine has been commended by Penin\u00a0and awarded 92 Pe\u00f1in points. This wine is from the ROSAL\u00cdA DE CASTRO WINERY\u00a0(MEA\u00d1O, PONTEVEDRA) and is made from 100% Albari\u00f1o sourced from the\u00a0winery&#8217;s own vineyards. \u00a0 \u00a0Nose: white fruit (green apples, pear) and lemony aromas. Hints of herbs (basil). \u00a0 \u00a0Palate: pineapple and mango intermingled with refreshing citrus flavours. \u00a0\u00a0This wine is currently available from Vinosensis.com at \u20ac10.76 per bottle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Red<\/strong> &#8211; Vizcarra Senda del Oro 2012, a &#8220;Roble&#8221; from the Ribera del\u00a0Duero. The 2011 was well received by the members in February,\u00a0scoring 87 points. Robert Parker has awarded the 2012 92 points and\u00a0Pe\u00f1in 91. 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from organic vineyards, aged\u00a07 months in French and American oak (a minimum of 6 months). It is\u00a0classified as a vino tinto joven con crianza and has an alcohol content of\u00a014%. This wine is prepared by Juan Carlos Vizcarra Ramos, at Bodegas\u00a0Vizcarra, using gravity. Parker comments of this wine &#8221; With a superb\u00a0texture and full-bodied mouthfeel, and built like a skyscraper, this\u00a0multidimensional Ribera del Duero is already drinking fabulously well. It should continue to\u00a0do so for up to a decade.&#8221; \u00a0 \u00a0Nose: Aromas of ripe red fruit and floral aromas bound together by the woody aroma. Palate: Tasty, sweet with elegant tannins, which make it a wine of great balance and\u00a0length.\u00a0This wines is currently available at only \u20ac8.15 a bottle From Ideavinos.com. It\u00a0normally retails at around \u20ac11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dessert<\/strong> &#8211; To accompany our dessert I have selected the Iberia Romate, a classic &#8220;cream&#8221; from Jerez. This is a wonderful sweet wine from the Palomino\u00a0and Pedro Ximenez grapes has a dark mahogany colour &#8211; dense, bright and\u00a0pleasant, a sweet and soft palate, perfect with both pasta and dessert. Aged for\u00a0a minimum of 8 years. Nose: It is rounded, with oak notes, fruit fragrances and\u00a0a persistent aroma. Palate: Smooth , sweet and harmonious, with velvety,\u00a0deep tones that last. \u00a0\u00a0This wine is available at Bodega Luis in Denia (previously in Ondarra) at \u20ac14.95\u00a0a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent negotiation with the venue and our wine suppliers has allowed us to\u00a0charge no more than for a normal tasting, despite the quality of the wines and the\u00a0location.
