{"id":1420,"date":"2014-03-30T07:57:20","date_gmt":"2014-03-30T07:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/?p=1420"},"modified":"2014-03-30T07:57:20","modified_gmt":"2014-03-30T07:57:20","slug":"march-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/march-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"March Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Annual General Meeting was opened by the President, Andrew Johnson at 18.30 hours at the Caf\u00e9 del Mar in Moraira.\u00a0\u00a0 After hearing several reports from the committee, the election of officers for 2014 took place.\u00a0\u00a0 The new President elected was Gordon Sellars, with a new Vice President Tim Fawle.\u00a0\u00a0 The incoming President then took over with the remainder of committee members being approved on bloc.\u00a0\u00a0 A number of other resolutions were then dealt with and the meeting closed at 19.30 hours.\u00a0\u00a0 A full set of minutes for the meeting has been posted on the society\u2019s web site.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em; line-height: 1.6875;\">Tasting &#8211; 20<sup>th<\/sup> February &#8211; Caf\u00e9 del Mar &#8211; Moraira<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The February tasting took place immediately after the Society\u2019s Annual General Meeting.\u00a0\u00a0 As is traditional, the newly elected president of the Society presented his President\u2019s Choice.\u00a0\u00a0 The tasting took place in the Caf\u00e9 del Mar in Moraira and 60 members and 4 guests gathered to listen to Gordon presenting five wines (two white, three red) based on unfamiliar regions and also in some cases unfamiliar grapes.\u00a0\u00a0 A full report on the tasting together with the average scores given by the society members to each wine are on the Society\u2019s web site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In respect of scoring some members have been scoring wines at the 50 level and I think it is worth pointing out that a score between 50 to 59 indicates an unacceptable wine which should not be drunk and must be reported at once to the person in charge of the tasting. As a brief<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">guide see below the scoring system used by Pe\u00f1in who are the acknowledged experts re Spanish wines.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em; color: #000000;\">95 \u2013 100 &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. Excellent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em; color: #000000;\">85 \u2013 89 &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.
