{"id":1526,"date":"2014-05-01T12:13:59","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T12:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2016-11-15T15:39:42","modified_gmt":"2016-11-15T15:39:42","slug":"april-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/april-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"April Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>March Tasting<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">69 members and guests assembled at Ca La Iaia to taste five wines presented by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro.\u00a0 The presenter was Javier Navarro Belzunce, the commercial director, who proved himself a skilled presenter in several languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The first wine was Fan D\u2019Oro, a 2012 100% chardonnay, a vino de mesa which had spent 12 months in French oak.\u00a0\u00a0 The Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1in awards it 90 points and excellent value for money at 7\u20ac.\u00a0\u00a0 Then we tasted the Arzuaga Rosae 2013 a rosado made from Tempranillo grapes.\u00a0 This wine is a new<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">venture for the Bodega and the wine had been released only two weeks previously.\u00a0\u00a0 Too new to be rated by any of the wine guides, it had an ABV of 14% and costs 12.50\u20ac<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This first red was La Planta 2012 Tinto a 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo).\u00a0\u00a0 The wine is from vines over 20 years old grown in the bodega which gives the wine its name and is at an altitude of 900 metres.\u00a0 The wine received 89 points in the Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1in and retails at 7.95\u20ac which was rated as very good value for money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The fourth wine was a Vino de Pago (see note on Vinos de Pago on web page) called Pago Florentino, a 2009 Tinto. The wine is 100% Cencibel (Tempranillo).\u00a0 Costing 12.05\u20ac, the Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1in classes the wine as good value for money and gives it 90 points.\u00a0\u00a0 The final wine was a Tinto Arzuaga Reserva de Familia 2008, 95% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.\u00a0\u00a0 Matured in French oak barrels for 26 months it is given 88 points by the Gu\u00eda Pe\u00f1in and costs 24.5\u20ac.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The evening ended with a vote of thanks for the presenter proposed by the society Vice President Tim Fawle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The average scores awarded by society members to each wine are shown in the full report on the tasting on the society\u2019s web page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In general the evening went well, although subsequently Gillian and Hugh received a complaint about the beef stroganoff which apparently nearly ran out on the last servings. This was most unfortunate for those affected and indeed uncharacteristic for a restaurant of Ca la Iaia\u2019s standing,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">May I suggest that if any incident of this nature occurs in future tastings, mention should be made immediately to me or Gillian\/Hugh in order that we may take appropriate action without embarrassment to the person\/persons concerned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>April Tasting \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> April \u2013 Marriott Hotel<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this tasting we will be presenting wines from Bodegas Solar de Urbezo which is of DO Cari\u00f1ena situated just to the south of Zaragoza.
