19th<\/sup> June 2014 Tasting at Puerto Blanco, Calpe<\/span><\/p>\n

Puerto Blanco is the Society\u2019s regular June venue, banking on good weather so we can sit outside and enjoy our aperitifs by the pool.\u00a0\u00a0 This year was no exception and 72 members and guests assembled to hear Miguel Vel\u00e1zquez,the managing Director of the Bodega Casa Los Frailes, an organic wine producer, presenting wines from the family bodega.\u00a0\u00a0 A full report on the five wines tasted is given\u00a0under the heading of Recent Tastings<\/b>.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

A new page, under the heading of Tastings<\/b><\/span><\/a> which lists all the wines so far tasted in 2014, together with the price and average points awarded by members.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next Wine Trip.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The next wine Trip is in the autumn and will be to DO Bullas and takes place from the 21\/22nd<\/sup> October.\u00a0\u00a0 Full details of the trip, including cost and booking arrangements are on the web page under the heading of Next<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/a>Tri<\/span><\/a><\/b>p<\/b>.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Committee meeting<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

On June 6th<\/sup> we had the second committee meeting of my tenure as president.<\/span><\/p>\n

A number of issues were discussed and agreed amongst which were the following:-<\/span><\/p>\n

1) We will endeavour to improve the seating arrangements at Ca La Iaia in view of a number of complaints we have received. This may involve reducing the maximum allowable number of people at this venue.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) As some of you will be aware, rising costs at some of our dining locations has put pressure on us to increase our standard charge of 30 Euros for members. Since we are reluctant to reduce the standard of the food and indeed have a stated objective to improve the quality and increase the diversity of the wines that we taste, then this charge may have to be increased in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

However it has been decided to subsidise tasting from the club\u2019s reserves during this year and to keep the same standard charge until after the AGM in February 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) We currently have a waiting list of 6 persons wishing to join the club,(Maximum numbers are set at 120 due to limitations in capacity at some of our tasting locations) Some membership applications are received directly via our web site. As a committee we believe it more<\/span> sensible only to receive applications from persons who have already attended tastings as a guest of a member.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next Tasting<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

There are no tasting meetings in July and August, so our next tasting meeting will be on the 18th<\/sup> September at La Senia<\/b>, The Hotel Nou Roma, Denia, <\/b>when we will have Past President\u2019s Pairings, given by three past presidents of the society.\u00a0\u00a0 A further newsletter will be issued at the beginning of September giving full details of the tasting<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally may I wish you all a warm and pleasant summer if you are spending it in Northern Europe and a \u201ccoolish\u201d summer if like Caryl and I, you are remaining in Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n
