{"id":2129,"date":"2014-12-31T10:03:26","date_gmt":"2014-12-31T10:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/?p=2129"},"modified":"2014-12-31T10:04:22","modified_gmt":"2014-12-31T10:04:22","slug":"newsletter-november-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cbws.eu\/archive\/newsletter-november-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"November 2014 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><\/h2>\n<p><strong>16<sup>th<\/sup> October 2014 \u2013 Restaurant Abiss \u2013 Calpe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Society used the Restaurant Abiss for the first time in October of last year and it was found to be so good that we returned again this year to taste the wines of Celler Mas Roig. \u00a0The tasting was attended by 65 members who listened to Vicente Montfort, the Alicante agent for Celler Mas Roig, introducing the bodega and presenting the wines.\u00a0\u00a0 Founded in 1917, Celler Mas Roig is one of the most important wineries in the Priorat region.\u00a0\u00a0 It encompasses approximately 500 hectares of vineyards, all under the Montsant Denominaci\u00f3n de Origen.\u00a0 Five wines were tasted, a white, a rosado and three reds.\u00a0\u00a0 A full report on the tasting including costs of the wine and the points scored is on the Society\u2019s web page <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.costablancawinesociety.com\/\">www.costablancawinesociety.com<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recently deceased members<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Those of you who attended the last 2 wine tastings will have heard me announce the recent deaths of three of our members and it is with great sadness that I have to inform all members of these events in this Newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Allan Law, <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a long standing\u00a0 member who despite suffering the effects of a stroke some years ago, still managed to attend meetings and enjoyed away trips from time to time, finally succumbed to cancer and died in September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>Pierre de Nys, <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">another long standing member of some 15 years also passed away in September. JP, as he was affectionately known, attended most of the away trips, loved good wine, good company and always had a twinkle in his eye. I represented the CBWS, along with many other members, at a memoriam lunch held at their home in Calpe on 17<sup>th<\/sup> of October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Morley Holiday<\/strong>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">a comparatively new member of about 6 years, but one who particularly enjoyed the good fellowship of the society, died on 24<sup>th<\/sup> September, only 5 weeks after having been diagnosed with a particularly virulent strain of leukaemia. \u00a0I will be representing the CBWS at a celebration of his life in Campello on November 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> am sure that you all will join me in sending our most sincere condolences to Jill Law, Annie de Nys, and Maureen Holiday, the surviving spouses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wine Trip to Bullas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 members went on the two day (21\/22 October) wine trip to Bullas.\u00a0\u00a0 Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip, the weather and the wines.\u00a0\u00a0 A full report on the trip is being produced by Rod Anderton and will be on the Society\u2019s web page early\/mid November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wine Trip 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The wine trip team are now making arrangements for the 2015 wine trip, which will take place next May.\u00a0\u00a0 It is hoped to publish details of the trip on the Society\u2019s web page by the end of November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Annual Subscriptions<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">IT\u2019S NEARLY NEXT YEAR \u2013 Subscriptions are due<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our treasurer David will be happy to take your 2015 subscription from you at the<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">November and December tastings. Several of our members have not attended for a very long time and others with changed circumstances may not wish to continue their membership.
