In the absence of President John Sloggie, Vice President Paul Nicholls welcomed 64 members and guests to the tasting at Restaurant Cumbre in Benitachel.   Five wines, two white and three red were presented by Thamar assisted by Mathew of Casa del Vino, Jávea under the title of “Wines of the future: wines of 2017”.    For a full report on the tasting, go to the web site and recent tastings or click on “February Tasting”.   The cost of each wine, where it can be purchased and average score given by members is shown on the web site in the list of wines tasted in 2017, which can also be found by clicking on “Wines tasted in 2017”.

Dress Code

May I remind members that the dress code for men on tasting evenings is jacket with tie preferred, but optional.   Ladies as appropriate.

March Tasting

The March tasting will be on 16th March at Restaurant Abiss in Calpe and the wines will be presented by Keith Pacey, who was wine taster of the year in 2016 together with Renate Pluis and Ted Floodgate who were runners up     This is a members only meeting.

Anyone wishing to stay overnight at the hotel Sol y Mar can obtain a 20% discount on the room rate by typing in WINESOCIETY (all caps, no gap) in the promotional box when booking online.

Please remember that the booking deadline is now the FRIDAY before the tasting.

  1. Reservations and choice of main course please to: Penny Floodgate Tel: 965794996 or email pennyfloodgate@gmail.com. Reservations must be received no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Friday 10th  March
  2. When you book Penny will ALWAYS confirm back to you. If you haven’t had a confirmation, we don’t have your booking! Please contact Penny again.
  3. Bookings will close at the stated time. We regret that NO bookings can be accepted after that date/time.
  4. Doors will open at 19.30 and welcome drinks will not be available before that time. Please do not arrive before then to allow the committee time to arrange the tables etc.
  5. Table numbers are always allocated by a draw from the bag. Arriving early will not influence your table number!
  6. As we now collect the money at the tables it would be helpful if you bring the correct amount.
  7. If you need to cancel after the Friday deadline you should contact Penny direct. Please DO NOT contact the venue.
  8. Sorry – but if you have to cancel after the deadline or don’t turn up you will still have to pay.
