Dear Members

Welcome to our Christmas Newsletter. There were a total of 49 members who attended the December tasting at A Bordo, Club Nautico, Javea. The December tasting is always hosted by the President who had chosen a selection of some of his favourite wines.

As it was a Christmas event there were no formalities such as wine scoring or descriptions of the wines, except on a general basis as this was a social occasion where members could enjoy good wines together in a convivial atmosphere.

Norman Easter

I am very sad to report that Norman Easter, a long term member of CBWS passed away at his home in England in early December at the age of 87.  Norman and his wife, Joan, had been members for over 20 years before returning permanently to England last year.  Throughout their time in Spain they were very active members in the Wine Society attending many tastings and Wine Trips.  Norman will be sadly missed as he was always enthusiastic to learn more about wines and making good friends within the Society. Our condolences go to Joan and the family.

JANUARY TASTING and AGM JANUARY 19 2023.

We have advised through previous Newsletters that the AGM will take place on the above date followed by a wine tasting at Hotel Nou Roma, Denia in their delightful restaurant La Senia where we will be presenting the winning wines that achieved high scores from members in 2022.

The meeting will start at 18.00h and numbers will be limited due to capacity so you are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

The current Committee have indicated their intention to continue in their roles for 2023. I will be standing down from the role of President at the end of 2023 and we will also be electing a Vice President for 2022. If there are any members who would like to join the Committee please contact the President.

For those members who are unable to attend the AGM you are invited to join the meeting by Zoom. If you would like to attend please email me direct – timfawle@gmail.com  and I will send you an invitation nearer the date and hope that the technology will work ‘on the night’.

Membership Renewal

 

Now is the time to pay your subscriptions for the year 2023.  The amount per person is unchanged at €25.

For those intending to attend the January tasting it would be helpful (but not essential) if you would make two transfers, one for the tasting and one for the subscriptions.

Now is also the time to check that your name still appears in the reference section – different banks name this section differently.  A significant number of people don’t insert their names here, which does complicate the accounting.

 

 

The menu for the January tasting will be sent out at the end of December at which time you should make your choices and book with Penny Floodgate in the usual way.

Guests are invited to attend the tasting only and should arrive at the restaurant not before 7.30 pm. 

We have had a great year within the Wine Society with lots of new initiatives and enjoyable activities.  On behalf of the Committee we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Healthy New Year
