We enjoyed a pre-dinner drinks reception in the stunning grounds of the Hotel Las Rotes in Denia. After we were seated for dinner I welcomed guests and introduced the 3 presenters from Bodegas Viña Elena.  The cost of each wine, where it can be purchased and average score given by members is shown in the list of wines tasted in 2017, which can be found by clicking on “Wines tasted in 2017”. June Tasting

The June Tasting will take place on the 15th June at the popular Puerto Blanco.  This will be “Wines for a summer evening concentrating on the indigenous grapes of Spain”, presented” by John Davis. John is already known to some members and, in 2017, is celebrating 50 years in the wine industry. He is the president of the Association of Wine Cellermen, owned Trapps Cellars in London and now spends his time, running wine tastings, valuing cellars, wine judging and some trading. We are indeed lucky to have such a knowledgeable speaker prepared to visit us and we hope for an excellent turnout to welcome him. I have been purchasing the wines for the evening and he has chosen some gems for us to taste.

Please remember that the booking deadline is now the FRIDAY before the tasting.

  1. Reservations and choice of main course please to: Penny Floodgate Tel: 965794996 or email pennyfloodgate@gmail.com. Reservations must be received no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Friday 9th June.
  2. When you book Penny will ALWAYS confirm back to you. If you haven’t had a confirmation, we don’t have your booking! Please contact Penny again.
  3. Bookings will close at the stated time. We regret that NO bookings can be accepted after that date/time.
  4. Doors will open at 19.30 and welcome drinks will not be available before that time. Please do not arrive before then to allow the committee time to arrange the tables etc.
  5. Table numbers are always allocated by a draw from the bag. Arriving early will not influence your table number!
  6. As we now collect the money at the tables it would be helpful if you bring the correct amount.
  7. If you need to cancel after the Friday deadline you should contact Penny direct. Please DO NOT contact the venue.
  8. Sorry – but if you have to cancel after the deadline or don’t turn up you will still have to pay.

Menu

Stuffed mushrooms with Spanish red pepper sauce

Warm goat cheese served with red berries, bouquet of salad and nuts dressing

Spicy Thai soup with vegetables and chicken.

For the main course:

Braised salmon filet with egg yolk and lime foam

– or –

Pork tenderloin cooked at low temperature with “peppers and pepper”.

For the dessert:

Pina Colada of pineapple and coconut.

Cost 30€ for members 35€ for guests

This is our last tasting before the summer recess so Shirley and I hope to see as many of you as possible ta Puerto Blanco on the 15th June. If you are not able to attend may I take this opportunity to give you our good wishes for the summer and we look forward to seeing you in September.
