April Tasting
Despite its proximity to the Easter weekend, 71 members and guests gathered at the Marriott hotel to listen to Sue from Casa del Vino in Jávea introduce five wines, (one white, one Rosado and three red) from the bodega Solar de Urbezo in the DO of Cariñena. In addition with the dessert we tasted a Vino de la Tierra; Vinos Sioneta from Bodegas Ribas in Mallorca. All the wines tasted scored highly in the Guía Peñín and can be purchased at Casa del Vino, who give Society members a 5% discount. A very enjoyable and successful evening was rounded off by past President Andrew Johnson who proposed a vote of thanks to Sue for the wines and their presentation. Wine Trip
The Annual wine trip will take place to Ribera Del Duero, departing Rafalet at 0830 on the 5th May and returning on the evening of the 9th May. Six bodegas will be visited during the trip and 45 members are attending. All members going have been advised of the arrangements. May Tasting
May 15th – Punta Negra, Hotel MR Les Rotes – Denia.
The wines this evening will be from Celler del Roure DO Valencia and will be presented by Javier Revert. The bodega is situated in an area known as Terres (or territory) des Alforins which is found between Moixent, Font de la Figuera and Fontanars dels Alforins.
In this roughly triangular area one can find 11 small bodegas, all of which are quite different and have very interesting stories to tell, apart from their production of fine wines.
If you have ever visited the ruins of an Iberian settlement called La Bastida de les Alcusses then you have probably walked through the vineyards of Celler del Roure, which is adjacent.
