June Tasting
A curious event took place last year in that five members shared the Society’s prize of Wine Taster of the Year all five scoring 100%. As they are clearly wine buffs and know their wines, they were each asked to present one of their favourite wines for the June tasting at Puerto Blanco. The five presenters were Kathy Johnson presenting a Cava, Renate Pluis a Rosado, James Blackwell and Gaby Ferenczy a Tinto each and Andrew Johnson a dessert wine. A full report on the proceedings is on the web page, just click on http://www.cbws.eu/archive/18th-june-2015-puerto-blanco-calpe/

News Flash
A new page has been introduced on the web site called News Flash, http://www.cbws.eu/archive/newsflash/ the aim of which is to make an announcement about an important upcoming event, which might take place within the Society’s Calendar, or be a wine associated function taking place outside which might be of interest to members. It may also draw attention to the programme page when programme changes have had to be made. If the heading News has a lightning bolt alongside it means there is information of interest in News Flash, so click on News, then on the drop down menu click on News Flash and read the information.
Jose Peñin
Our next tasting on September 17 is a very important event in that Jose Peñín founder of Guia Peñin is coming to talk to the Society. Guia Peñin is the wine lovers reference for wines in Spain and worldwide and it is considered the “bible” for wine producers and the wine trade.
We are delighted that Jose Peñin has accepted our invitation which clearly reflects his interest in the Costa Blanca Wine Society. This year the Guia Peñin is celebrating their 25th year of publication. Jose will, as he calls it, give a “Cata y Charla”- a tasting and a chat, which will include wines that he has selected himself. This prestigious event will be held at the Parador Javea.
Our Venues and Menu team have tried to get a reduction for anyone wishing to stay overnight but unfortunately as we are in “high season” the hotel cannot offer discounted rates so the price is €151.50 including breakfast.
You are welcome to bring friends who are interested in wine as your guests as we would like to see a healthy attendance. Please put this date in your diary! Full booking details and menu choices will be sent to you at the end of August.
Wine Trip
The next wine trip will be held on 6/7October. Details of the trip and booking arrangements will be announced on the web page end of July or early August. Please make a note of these dates if you would like to participate.
On behalf of your Committee we hope you have a wonderful summer tasting great wines wherever you are!
See you in September.
Best Regards,
Tim Fawle, President
