Welcome to our June Newsletter. The May tasting was hosted by Tasting Team members Neil Robertson and Vicky Wyatt at the MR Hotel Les Rotes, Denia on Thursday May 19.
Brian Howard
48 members and guests attended with Neil introducing his guest speaker, Brian Howard, a seasoned wine professional from London to present to us. Brian is a founding member of Wine Intelligence. This company, founded in 2002 conducts projects on behalf of wine businesses in more than 35 wine markets.
The evening was extremely interesting with Brian providing us with insights into the changing trends in the wine business as well as a selection of Spanish wines for the tasting. The organisation by Neil, Vicki and Brian together with an excellent food offering from the hotel and the preparation to make it a success was very much appreciated.

Next Tasting June 15/16, 2022 at Bodega Pepe Mendoza
Our next wine tasting event will be hosted by Neville and Sara Richardson and it will be very different! We are going to the Bodega of Pepe Mendoza in Lliber on successive evenings, with 25 members per visit. Pepe is a local producer of very good quality wines concentrating on local and historic grapes. He is passionate about his craft and he has hosted UK Masters of Wine and featured in the UK Wine Society wine lists. His enthusiasm and his wines are bound to make this event special.
We are fully subscribed for these events and are sure those attending will enjoy the wines of Pepe Mendoza.
There will be no meetings during July and August so our next tasting will be in September.
Thursday 15th September – Puerto Blanco, Calpe at 7.30 pm
This evening at one of our most popular venues will be hosted by Andrew and Kathy Johnson. Full information including menu and booking details will be sent out at the end of August.
Thursday 20th October – La Senia, Denia
Tasting Team members Hugh & Gillian Epsom will be offering us a light-hearted evening of “Whose Wine is it Anyway?”
Thursday 17th November – Los Amigos, Javea
A prestigious bodega from DO Montsant and DO Priorat has agreed to present their wines to us. The owner, Albert, is a wine innovator producing some interesting wines. As many of you could not attend the recent Wine Trip this is a good opportunity to enjoy his wines.
Thursday 8th December – A Bordo, Javea
Christmas Tasting which is the President’s choice of wines.
Please make a note in your diaries of these important dates. The Tasting Team and your committee have worked very hard to provide us all with a varied programme of events and we hope that as many members as possible will attend.
Wine Trip to Montsant
The wine trip to Montsant took place on May 2 to May 5.
The group of 24 attendees enjoyed the bodega visits, excellent Catalan food and even, for most of us, a trip down a lead mine. The wines of the DO Montsant did not disappoint as demonstrated through the purchases of almost €9000 worth of wine!

And finally……..
We say goodbye to long term members Joan and Norman Easter and Felicity and John Fittwho will no longer be residing in Spain.
Over the years they have all been great supporters of CBWS and participated in many Tastings and Wine Trips. We will miss you but enjoy your full time residence back in the UK.
Enjoy your summer with lots of nice wines and friendship and I look forward to seeing you in September at Puerto Blanco!
