November
Dear Members
Shirley and I were sorry to miss the October tasting which we understand was an outstanding evening. Vice-President Paul Nicholls hosted the evening in my absence. He welcomed the 60 CBWS members and also Juan José from Dehesa del Carrizal who would present his Pago Wines from the Toledo area of Spain. Whilst the CBWS had visited this area on the May 2016 Wine Trip it hadn’t included a visit to their winery. Juan José explained that the Dehesa del Carrizal estate is placed in the middle of the Montes de Toledo, near the Cabañeros National Park, between Tajo and Guadiana basins. It owes its success to the ‘Terroir’ – the genetic patrimony and combination of soils, climate and the human factor. Dehesa del Carrizal is a Vino de Pago, the highest category according to Spanish wine law. It is a DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida –Protected Designation of Origin) reserved for those few wineries and vineyards which carry out the whole process –from the grape to the bottle– within the limits of the Pago or estate. The unique location, soil and climate are the key to obtaining exceptional wines. A full report on the tasting can be found on the web site under Wine Tastings or by clicking on “October Tasting”
Autumn Wine Trip
The Autumn Wine Trip was held on 4/5 October and visited Requena and three bodegas. A full report of the trip by Joan Easter and a video prepared by Paul Nicholls can be found on the web site under Wine Trips or by clicking on “Autumn Wine Trip”
December Tasting
An advance note that our December tasting (Thursday 8th December) will be held in the Javea Yacht Club. This is a new venue for the society and several of us have eaten there before and it is an excellent venue. If you wish to stay over the nearest Hotel is the Jávea Hotel in the Port area. They have offered a 5% discount if you quote CBWS. Their number is 965 795 461. I know 5% is not a lot but please ask for it as they will then know how many stay and Colin and Sue may be able to get better deal next time!
Bodegas Bleda
On 2nd November at 12.00 Bodegas Bleda will once again be at Sol Park, Moraira selling their wines. Full details can be found on the web site under Flash News or by clicking on “Bodegas Bleda”
Wine Tastings
When we book with the various restaurants and negotiate the price part of our negotiation is that we will give exact numbers and choices in advance of the event. May I please remind you that the deadline for booking shown in the newsletter means just that. Penny will not be able to accept bookings after the deadline. Penny will also ALWAYS acknowledge your booking so if you have not heard back from Penny please contact her.
