The October wine tasting at, followed a concept introduced some years ago by Gillian Ashworth and Hugh Epsom. It was a blind tasting called Whose Wine Is It Anyway? They roped Neville Richardson into helping with the convincing incorrect wine tasting notes, but which of the three presenters was actually telling the truth?
The first wine Gargalo Godello 2020, was a young mono-varietal white wine produced by Bodegas Gargalo, DO Monterrei, costing €10.95. This wine has a James Suckling Score of 91.
The second was Legaris Verdejo 2020, another mono-varietal white wine, this time from Bodegas Legaris, DO Rueda, costing €5.99. This wine boasts a Peñín score of 89.
The third was Pesquera Crianza 2019, Tinto Pesquera, DO Ribera del Duero, costing €19.85. This is a classic Tempranillo from Bodegas Tinto Pesquera, a winery that belongs the Familia Fernández Rivera group.This wine carries a Peñín score of 91.
The fourth was Estola Reserva 2017, an excellent value Cabernet-Tempranillo blend from Bodegas Ayuso, CO La Mancha, costing €3.65. Cabernet Sauvignon provides much of the wine’s structure, but benefits from the addition of the more voluptuous Tempranillo. Sneaky to introduce a cheap, supermarket wine into the mix!
The fifth was Enate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend from Enate Viñedos y Crianzas del Alto Aragón, DO Somontano, costing €6.80. We visited during our wine trip to Somantano.

The table that scored the most correct answers was presented with four bottles of some of the wine tasted on the evening.
